The American people love the USPS. In a June 12, 2020 Harris Poll survey of the 100 most-essential companies during COVID-19, the United States public ranked the USPS first above all other businesses. People were asked, “"How much would you miss the company if it closed for good?” USPS was ranked first for Resolve, Integrity, Trustworthiness and Permanence.
Postal workers are front-line workers during the pandemic. While many have sheltered at home during the pandemic, the USPS has delivered essential supplies.
Mail volume and revenue are down. Congress has required the USPS to pay sick leave to employees who stay home due to the pandemic but Congress has not provided funding for this. The USPS will run out of money this year without financial assistance from Congress. The administration in the White House wants the Postal Service to fail so that it can be privatized. Privatization means postage rates would go up and service would go down.
