Building Racial and Economic Justice: A Discussion on Fostering Safe and Prosperous Communities

Start: Wednesday, May 29, 2024 5:00 PM

End: Wednesday, May 29, 2024 7:30 PM

Join Committee members, and local and state Labor Leaders to discuss how the Labor movement can contribute to building safe communities for all, no matter where you live, what you look like, or what type of work you do. This event is welcome to all Labor leaders and activists who share a good faith desire to eliminate racism in our movement and our state and make sure the labor movement is welcoming and inclusive to all.

Background: In 2020 the Minnesota AFL-CIO established a Racial and Economic Justice Committee to review concrete actions unions can take to implement the “Resolution on Racial and Economic Justice" passed by our General Board. Included in the committee's charge was "work to develop a new vision of public safety." Knowing that public safety is broader than any one issue, the committee held conversations with leaders from healthcare, education, law enforcement, and other vital sectors, developing a "Resolution on Safe Communities" that was passed by our General Board in 2022.

Casual dinner at 5, program begins at 5:15.
