Protect Paid Sick Leave for Alaska's Workers
Alaska's Legislature
The Alaska legislature is currently considering HB 161 (House Bill 161), a bill from Rep. Ruffridge to roll back voter-approved earned sick leave for workers in Alaska.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO STOP THIS ROLLBACK FROM HAPPENING
Last November, voters across Alaska overwhelmingly supported Ballot Measure #1, which raised the minimum wage, banned captive audience meetings, and, importantly, mandated earned sick leave for workers. Fast forward four months, and representatives are already trying to claw back key provisions of that ballot measure. HB 161 would exempt employers with fewer than 50 employees from the mandated sick leave provision. This is an attempt to strip workers of rights by employers who are attempting to overturn the will of Alaska's voters.
The regulations for implementing Ballot Measure #1 have not even been written yet, and some in the legislature are already scrambling to put business profits over the health of workers. We need you to you to sign this petition and let the legislature know that you voted for Ballot Measure #1 to provide sick leave for ALL WORKERS, not just those who work for employers with over 50 employees.

It is appalling to see lawmakers attempting to overturn the will of Alaska's voters and put business profit margins over the health of workers. The regulations for implementing Ballot Measure #1 have not even been written yet, and the legislature is already hastily crafting exemptions.
We call on lawmakers to stop meddling with workers' earned sick leave and instead focus on issues that will actually benefit Alaska's working families.
