Support Union Jobs at the Concord Naval Weapons Station

Concord’s agreement with Lennar Corporation to develop the Concord Naval Weapons Station (CNWS) was allowed to expire by the City Council. Why? Lennar refused to accept the City Council’s objectives that the project would include:
1. 40% local hire for local residents to ensure that the project benefits Concord’s working families
2. Apprenticeship training and employment for local youth to create a pipeline for quality construction jobs in our community
3. Veteran training and employment for local residents
4. Negotiation of a Project Labor Agreement
5. Payment of Prevailing Wages to protect local area wage standards
The City will soon start looking for a new Master developer and will also be developing a new draft Specific Plan. Despite the city's adherence to good job principles, we fully anticipate corporate developers and their allies will attempt to weaken the benefits to our community.
