Gov. Snyder: Protect collective bargaining rights - veto SB 971

In a shameful power grab, the Michigan House and Senate rammed through SB 971, legislation that takes away the collective bargaining rights of thousands of Michigan workers. House leadership pushed the bill through on March 1, to pre-empt a ruling by the Michigan Employment Relations Commission (MERC), expected this month.

In the House, this anti-worker bill was added to  the agenda at the last minute, advanced to Third Reading and voted on it without allowing any debate. This bill won't create any jobs and it won't further any educational goals. Passing this bill was all about taking the rights of thousands of Michigan workers before the MERC ruling was issued.
This cynical attack on collective bargaining rights shouldn't make it into state law.

We urge Governor Snyder to veto SB 971 and protect the collective bargaining rights of graduate research employees.
