Tell Gov. Deal and your Representatives to not hurt jobless workers
Amid high unemployment and a bad economy in Georgia, extreme lawmakers are trying to pass SB 447, a bill that would cut Georgia’s unemployment insurance to the fewest week of any state in the country.
It would cut maximum weeks from 26 down to a sliding scale of 12 to 20. Next year 190,000 Georgia families who lost their jobs through no fault of their own would lose between $260 and $1,820 in already low unemployment insurance benefits.
Most families live paycheck to paycheck, and now wait two or three weeks to receive their first unemployment check. SB 447 would also impose a “waiting week” on desperate families and another 138,000 families would lose $260.
